Snakes are out- Watch your family

Please watch your children and be aware of surroundings if you live where there are snakes. I'm paranoid of them, my kids can't go outside to play unless I do a "Snake check" and I watch them like a hawk. I am constantly looking everywhere around the yard, road, parking area, etc.

My neighbor called me the day this happened, it is her friends daughter.

This past week a 19 year old was walking with her friend on a trail and slipped in mud. She felt what appeared to be a stick under her arm and when she looked down it was a Copperhead snake! She got up and realized she had been bitten on her arm. Her friend got her away from the snake and they took her to the hospital where she was taken to another since they didn't have the anti-venom needed (This worries me that our hospital doesn't carry this).

Her heart was swelling and they administered 4 shots, it didn't work and they had to do more. By the time she was done, they had given her 10 viles of anti venom in all. She was in the ICU but, is doing better now. She is very lucky to be alive.

This happened about 8 miles from my house. Last year, one of my neighbors dogs was bitten by a cottonmouth. He luckily had the shots that his dog needed and his dog survived.

Knock on wood but, I haven't seen any snakes on our property yet but, that doesn't mean they haven't been here.

Please watch out for yourselves, children, pets, etc. Especially if you are in a rural area.
